A preparation solution to be used in applications involving the pH measurement of soil samples.
The Soil Sample Preparation Solution is an electrolyte solution used in the measurement of soil pH. The pH of soil is most commonly measured as either a water slurry or electrolyte slurry, where a set ratio of soil:solvent (solvent is water or electrolyte solution) is chosen; common ratios used for soil pH are 1:1, 1:2 or 1:5, where more solvent than soil is used when soils-to-be-analyzed contain high amounts of organic matter or clay. Use of an electrolyte solution is usually preferred as it is less affected by soil electrolyte concentration and provides a more consistent measurement for soils whose salt content may fluctuate as a result of seasonal conditions or crop residues. Using the HI7051 solution prior to taking a measurement provides for a more accurate pH reading of soil samples.
