Superior Signal VPE-2000 Offers

The Accutrak ultrasonic leak detector uses two independent sensors supported by separate electronic circuits configured specifically to their sensor. This assures optimum sound clarity and frequency response and when switching between the airborne and contact sensors all settings are retained in memory. Digital LED meters let you establish baselines, perform trending, and accurately repeat these tests better than older more expensive analog instruments. The Accutrak VPE-2000 works by detecting the high-frequency sound associated with friction, arcing, and turbulence in industrial systems.

By a process called heterodyning, the ultrasonic detector translates the ultrasonic hissing sound to a lower frequency where it can be heard through headphones and leads you to the source. As you get closer, the sound gets louder, and/or the LED meter increases. As you close in on the leak, decrease the sensitivity to easily pinpoint its location. Some leaks can be heard from several feet away, therefore direct access to the leak is not always necessary.

As long as the leak is turbulent, there will be enough sound to be detected ultrasonically. Ultrasonic air leak detectors can detect pinhole leaks with as low as 1 psi. However, the more pressure behind the leak, the more turbulence there will be, and the easier it will be to locate. The airborne sensor detects external ultrasonic sound which travels through air vibration.
