Kestrel 3500FW Offers

This weather meter was designed as a full weather meter without the ability to capture and store data as with the next level up with the Kestrel 5000. Depending on your budget, the 5000 at just a little more in price is something to consider with a much brighter screen with the newest technology, including an RH that does not need to be calibrated.

Features

  • Real-time clock
  • Waterproof and floats
  • Large easy-to-read display with backlight
  • Data hold function
  • High precision pressure sensor
  • Quick response, external thermistor
  • Forecast weather with pressure trend indicator
  • Humidity sensor can be recalibrated in the field with our Relative Humidity Calibration Kit.
  • Innovative, thermally adjusted humidity sensor designed for stability and accuracy in abrupt condition changes
  • Patented user-replaceable impeller
  • Reliable, portable and easy to use
  • Protective cover with sure-grip overmolding
  • All instruments and accessories are completely assembled in the USA

Applications

  • Skiers and Ski Hill Operators
  • Search and Rescue Workers
  • Construction Workers
  • Irrigation Professionals
  • Boaters and Paddlers

Pocket Wind Meters Measure

  • Barometric pressure
  • Altitude
  • Relative humidity
  • Heat stress index
  • Dew point
  • Wet bulb temperature
  • Wind chill
  • Air, water, and snow temperature
  • Current wind speed
  • Average wind speed
  • Maximum wind gust

This weather meter measures temperature, wind speeds, barometric phenomena, pressure trends of up to 3 hours, and more. This weather meter provides a complete range of weather measurements, but does not log accumulated data like the more high-tech weather meters of the Kestrel 5000 series. For those who need a full reading of only the latest weather information, this weather meter is the ideal Kestrel Meter.

This weather meter has all the capabilities of the Kestrel 3000, plus:

  • Barometric Pressure
  • Barometric Trend
  • Altitude
  • Clock

In addition to this weather meter's pressure trend indicator, it also has the advantage of altitude and barometric pressure measurement. With these features on hand at any time, this weather meter becomes an ideal weather instrument for outdoor enthusiasts, sportsmen and women, and anyone else that will benefit from accurate and up to the second weather and barometric information.

The Barometric Trend feature is not quite the graph of the Kestrel 4000 series, but rather an arrow indicator. The arrow will indicate the trend of the previous 3 hours even if the meter was off. If the batteries are changed, the arrow will show just the current trend, not historical.

For military, or just those using it at night a lot, the Olive Drab NV version of this weather meter features a night-vision preserving backlight. Backlight incorporates optical filter to reduce overall brightness and minimize blue and green spectrum light to preserve night vision. (Note: This backlight appears soft greyish pink, not "red", and is still in the visible spectrum, so is not compatible with night-vision equipment.)

This weather meter's easy to use menu system scrolls through 9 different environmental measurement conditions. It has an external temperature sensor with a waterproof casing that allows you to gauge the temperature of water, snow, and the open air. The sensitive and user-replaceable impeller technology provides accurate wind speed info, and a hard slide-on case, lanyard, and battery are included.

Reliable, Accurate, and Consistent Weather Monitoring for Firefighters

Weather has a very impactful effect on both starting and sustaining fires. Wind, temperature and humidity are all important factors to take into consideration. The Kestrel Weather Meter 2016 Fire Line includes lifesaving and important features such as Probability of Ignition (PIG) and Fine Dead Fuel Moisture (FDFM) which saves time and ensures consistency of readings between emergency professionals.

Fighting Fire with Knowledge

Fire fighters need accurate, timely and current situational awareness in order to respond effectively to any fire hazard they face. Weather conditions are unpredictable and can cause a bad situation to get worse if you are not tracking the latest conditions. Wind speed and direction, temperature and humidity are factors fire fighters take into consideration especially when digging firelines.

The Kestrel line now includes a full range of meters and loggers, including models with built-in Probability of Ignition (PIG) and Fine Dead Fuel Moisture (FDFM) readings. Wireless data transfer to smart phones and tablets using Kestrel LiNK™ makes communicating real-time conditions easier than ever. Heat stress prediction models help keep personnel safe when working in extreme hot weather conditions.

Taking Weather Observations

High and low wind speeds, temperature, humidity and altitude are all important factors to take into consideration when faced with a wild fire. It is important to know the surrounding conditions to understand how a fire is evolving. The new PRO line of Kestrel Fire Weather Meters measures these variables and allows you to communicate with your team detailed data reports using the free Kestrel LINK app. Eliminate errors with these meters by having the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Probability of Ignition (PIG) and Fine Dead Fuel Moisture (FDFM) tables built right in. The PRO models even data log all your readings so you have immediate trend information at your fingertips.

Controlled Burns

Controlled or prescribed burning is an important technique used in forest management and farming to reduce fuel buildup and decrease the likelihood of serious hotter fires. Since future weather is uncertain it’s important to gather all the necessary readings you can to monitor while conducting these burns. Wind speed, wind gust, average wind, temperature and humidity are all measurements you can take with the new Kestrel DROP D3FW Fire Data loggers. These meters can be left on site to record days of round-the-clock temperature and humidity readings and then can be viewed on a mobile device. This allows you to gather adequate weather information on the day before and the day of a burn. Fuel will not burn when wet and will not burn adequately when relative humidity is too high. Fire control becomes difficult when relative humidity is too low. Now you can take the guess work out of these important factors and manage the burn site to ensure that a fire does not get out of control.

Heat Stress Prevention

During the hot summer, risks of heat stress increase exponentially for wildland firefighters when working in extreme conditions. Fire fighters must take into consideration the added impact of wearing heavy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on heat stress. Temperature is not the sole indicator of heat stress. You must take into consideration the heat stress in direct sunlight which takes into account temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle and cloud cover to give you a reading of how hot it really feels. The Kestrel Fire Weather Meter PRO with WBGT is an all-inclusive weather station with a heat stress indicator to keep fire fighters and emergency personnel safe when working outside. This meter has pre-programmed ACGIH guidelines and alert settings to indicate when conditions have become extremely unsafe which makes it the ultimate tool for safety of your team.
