Tempo Greenlee 701K-G Professional Tone and Probe Tracing Kit. The Tempo Greenlee 701K-G professional tone and probe tracing kit is an improved version of the best-selling probe and tone generator set originally made by Progressive Electronics. The kit includes the Greenlee 200EP-G Tone Probe Amplifier and the 77HP-G Tone Generator. The Greenlee 701k-G probe and toner kit will effectively determine the routing of cables and verify that the cables are connected properly. • The easy one hand operation enables service and repair technicians to quickly and efficiently complete tests. The Greenlee Tempo Communications 701K-G tone and probe kit traces voice, data, and security wires.
• The 200EP-G speaker generates a loud tone, so working in a noisy environment is not a problem. However, the probe does includes three listening modes: speaker, headset, or butt-in telephone depending on your application and the environment surrounding the location of the cables. The probe uses a resistive plastic carbon-fiber tip to prevent any accidental shorts while the service technician is probing wires. Tracing is always a two-step process:
• Step one - a tech connects the tone generator to one end of a wire or cable. The tone generator will then modulate an electrical signal on the wire or wires to which it is connected.
• Step two - involves going to the other end of the wire and running the inductive probe along a bundle of mixed, loose, or unlabeled wire to listen to find the wire that has been connected to the tone generator. Once the tip of the probe is in close proximity of the correct wire it will generate an audible tone. Occasionally, the tone will bleed onto another cable, but a technician is always looking for the cable that yields the loudest tone. In addition, the probe has a LED Tone Proximity Indicator that will light up brighter when it comes close to the correct wire. The Greenlee 701K G tone and probe kit can be used to check for polarity on telephone wires. A polarity test indicates if wires have been reversed at one of the ends. The kit can also be used to perform a continuity test.
• This test shows if wires are connected properly and that there is no break in that circuit. In addition, the tone probe comes with adjustable gain control for easy tracing - controlling signal strength is very important, as in a long cable one needs to apply a stronger signal to identify pairs at the other end, and conversely shorter cables require a weaker signal in order to avoid excessive tone bleed and to identify wires properly. The tone tracing kit includes voltage protection - voice, data and video cables carry low current.
